Rowdy Superstar

This Friday sees future pop icon Rowdy Superstar grace the top bar for Truth Or Dare with Miguel Dare. Currently a member of legendary digital hardcore band Atari Teenage Riot, and having made his debut album, Battery, with the equally legendary Matthew Herbert, it should come as no surprise that he's hanging out in Mykki Blanco videos and getting great write-ups in The Guardian proclaiming him the next Big Thing. We caught up with him for the lowdown and a quick game of musical Truth Or Dare...

Who are your style icons?

Kurt Cobain, Grace Jones, Yoko Ono, Outkast.

They don't really reflect my style. It's more about an attitude that I feel their style gives off. And the approach to style that they have/had.

How did you come to work with Matthew Herbert on your debut album and what was it like to work with him?

We had a mutual friend in Eska who introduced him to my Myspace page, and he asked to meet me and hear more. I sent him 50 tracks haha. He said he wanted to make an album.

In your opinion, what's the best track on Battery and why?

It changes all the time. At the moment it's Never Let Go.

What is playing on your stereo right now?

BC Kingdom, Mykki Blanco, Trudie Dawn Smith, Modern Girls, Death Grips, Hello Skinny, Roses Gabor and Clout.

You're a Londoner- what are your favourite hidden hotspots in the capital?

Quiet As It's Kept do pop-up exhibitions and nights in random places all over London that are always good, if you find out about them.

Not so secret but I love seeing bands at the Boiler Room... dark, sweaty and intimate.

My favourite eat spot is major Italian food at Bellatoni's in Brixton Village.

You call yourself "the dreamer of dreams" but do you have vivid dreams or lucid dreams?

Vivid.

What's the best part of being in Atari Teenage Riot?

The best part of being in my band Atari Teenage Riot is that it's a collective energy focused on a common goal. There's a natural synergy between us.

You were recently in the video for Mykki Blanco's track Haze.Boogie.Life. Can we expect more from you two together next year?

Maybe???

You have so many strings to your bow- what *don't* we know about that you're up to?

I'm currently working on pieces for my first art exhibition next year.

And finally give us a track that sums up "truth" and a track that sums up "dare" for you please!

Truth - Redemption Song by Bob Marley

Dare - Look Into The Light... by me!

Join Rowdy Superstar for Truth Or Dare this Friday 23rd November from 9pm - 3am in the top bar.
