Uncontrollable Urge is proud to present their first special guests for 2016! Fresh from the debut night of their residency at Birthdays, the boys or squareglass records will be hot-footing it down the road for a takeover at Dalston Superstore. A self-described "home for new and unconventional artists", squareglass have unearthed some seriously stunning talent over the last year or two, and 2016 is set to be no different. We caught up with them ahead of Uncontrollable Urge to chat plans for this year, highlights so far, and plans for the afterparty!

Since your launch in 2014, you guys have seen a huge amount of success with the label – what has been your proudest moment?

When all of us came together to play on one night at Power Lunches last year. That was pretty special. We’re having a similar one at The Social on March 23 with almost the entire live roster.

What exciting things does 2016 hold for squareglass?

Tons. Releases by everyone involved, plus some collaboration projects and a new artist on board. And lots of London and UK dates.

Can you give us a sneak peek of some of the artists your residency will feature?

Tomorrow we got FKL headlining. They’ve been putting one banger after the other out last year and founded their own label Orphan. Really strong. Also up there will be Crypt Thing, the newest member of squareglass. We’ve got his EP lined up for April. It’s inspired by super computers and artificial intelligence and comes with a website full of self-generated videos. And then there’ll also be La Leif, who’s live set is somewhere between Ambient and Disco.

For April we’ve got Ballerino and A House In The Trees on. Fantastic collective from SE London.

Which upcoming squareglass release are you most excited about?

We’ve got our first full-length LP release coming up for Semi Precious. That’ll take that place.

What has been the biggest challenge of running an independent label in the current music climate?

Not sure if it’s sustainable to JUST run a label nowadays. It’s more about building a community of artists that support each other. Run events. Do collaborations. Much more fun.

Track you wish you had produced?

K15 – Yellow

Artist who has been the biggest inspiration to you?

We’re a few people, so can‘t agree on one. Herbert, Bowie, Jaar.

What’s one curveball record you can’t wait to throw at the afterparty at Uncontrollable Urge?

Fitzzgerald. The latest release on WotNot.

Catch squareglass at Uncontrollable Urge on Wednesday March 9 from 9pm-2:30am at Dalston Superstore.
