Queer Space is an exhibition drawing queer artefacts and ephemera from national archives, personal collections and influential queer meccas to create a brief but passionate exploration of queer culture over the last century.
As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act (the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK), we look to the past that forged our present and that will shape our future. As queer people this exhibition is our way of honouring those queers that made our lives more free today.
With parties and events designed around the exhibition throughout its run, including talks, performances and workshops, we celebrate and affirm our queer identity.
We do not claim this to be representative of the whole story but a foundation for more stories to be told. This is an organic exhibition and would want this to provide a platform for further individual and collective narratives to be unveiled. We invite those who want to share their own personal stories of spaces, to do so. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Proudly supported by Queer Tours of London – A Mince Through Time: a tour of London set up to bring forth the visibility of our incredible community at large and the journey to how we became who we are today. Against the backdrop of the mass closure of LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex) cultural spaces and support services, ‘QUEER TOURS OF LONDON’ are being developed to support London’s current queer activism, culture and performance in all its glory.
