TRANSMISSIONS PRESENTS: PORTRAIT OF JASON (1967) + FLY IN POWER (2023):

We’re proud to begin July by partnering with our friends at THORN, a network of trans SWers in London, to raise funds for their vital community work, and present you with two essential documentaries.
The evening will begin with Fly In Power (2023), Yin Q and Yoon Grace Ra‘s critically-acclaimed, expansive document of Asian diasporic massage workers in modern-day New York City that follows Charlotte, and her experience as both a Korean worker, and a core organiser of activist collective Red Canary Song.
And following a brief intermission we’ll screen Shirley Clarke‘s irresistible Portrait of Jason (1967), where renaissance queen Jason Halliday is interviewed at length about his adventures in life as a black, queer man, an artist, and a SWer, detailing the many hats he’s found himself donning along his path to sitting down to command the camera.

Join us downstairs at Dalston Superstore for a night where we reflect on a few strands of the innumerable legacies of SWers, and their frequent roles as leaders in our communities.
“If I don’t please them, it’s because I’m not trying”
100% of proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go to THORN, so please give generously.
Tickets and ways to donate are over on OutSavvy: https://www.outsavvy.com/organiser/transmissions1

Subtitles will be displayed throughout both films.

Seating is a mixture of benches, backed chairs, bar stools, and floor space, and is first come, first served.
