Seize the Means of Medical Transition: Staff Trans* Healthcare fundraiser

Dalston Superstore is throwing this event to raise funds for our trans* employees’ gender affirming health care.

Fundraisers and privatised health care, however, should not be normalised and be replacing the public health care system but for most trans* people this is currently their only option. Everyone should have the right to public health care but waiting lists of over five years, underfunding, and cis-core standards means that this is not the reality for most trans people. Trans health care becomes a matter of access to resources and proximity to privilege.

We, as trans people, should get to define for ourselves whether and how we choose to medically, legally and socially transition. We encourage people to seize the means of transitioning, to distribute resources among ourselves whether this means donating to a fundraiser or sharing a HRT prescription, and to continue protesting our lack of access to free, public health care.

This party is not just a fundraiser but more importantly a protest against the fact that fundraisers are even necessary. 

This party centres trans* people, medicalised or not. For the rest of y’all: Sorry you’re cis, at least you have access to decent health care.

We have invited some of our favourite local DJs and performers to join us, with all door proceeds going directly to staff GoFundMe pots.
