On Saturday 22nd August, we welcome Brazilian party crew MARIWÔ to The Mothership. The fierce collective of DJs, artists & producers are on a stomping global tour, with Superstore at the next stop. Ahead of their London debut this weekend, we caught up with them to discuss all things MARIWÔ …

Who is MARIWÔ? How and why did your party start?
MARIWÔ is a Brazilian collective and creative platform made up of DJs, artists and producers. It began because we wanted a party that reflected the way we experience music and culture: through our own references, identities and sensibilities. From the beginning, the dance floor has been the heart of the project. It is where Brazilian, Black and queer cultures meet, and where music, performance and visual art become part of the same experience. For us, MARIWÔ is a place of freedom and belonging. The atmosphere comes from everyone in the room, so the audience is as important as the artists.

We see you’re on tour at the moment, having recently taken MARIWÔ to Marseille, Paris and now London! What aspect of Brazilian club culture are you excited to bring abroad? How does Brazil’s nightlife scene contrast with that of other cities?
What excites us most is bringing the energy of a Brazilian dance floor. In Brazil, people participate in the party very openly. They sing, dance together, react to the DJ and change the direction of the night. There is a constant exchange between the booth and the crowd. That also shapes the way we play. A MARIWÔ set can move from baile funk to amapiano, Afro-house, Brazilian electronic music or pop. The transitions follow the energy in the room rather than a strict genre.
Each city has its own relationship with nightlife. In many European clubs, audiences are used to parties centred around a more specific sound or scene. Brazilian dance floors often allow more contrast and surprise. That freedom to mix references is something we really enjoy sharing abroad.

MARIWÔ’s event flyers are vibrant works of art. What inspired your visual identity?
Our visual identity comes from Brazilian carnival, street posters, Afro-Brazilian references and popular graphic culture. We like images that feel generous, layered and full of movement. Collage, tropical colours and ornamentation help us create a visual world that feels immediately connected to the atmosphere of the party. The artwork also extends into the venue through lighting, styling and decoration. By the time someone enters a MARIWÔ event, we want them to feel that they are stepping into a complete environment.
Three songs that encapsulate MARIWÔ’s energy?
Tati Quebra Barraco — Boladona
M.I.A. — Bucky Done Gun
Sade — Like a Tattoo (Funk Remix)
Together, they say a lot about how we play: different references meeting through rhythm and emotion.

We’re so excited to have you at The Mothership! What can we expect for MARIWÔ x Dalston Superstore on Saturday 22nd August?
We are bringing the full MARIWÔ atmosphere to Dalston Superstore, with a dance floor shaped by Brazilian and global club music. The DJs will move between baile funk, Afro-house, amapiano, Brazilian electronic music and pop edits, while also bringing their own personal references into the night. Above all, we want the party to feel warm, expressive and alive. We hope people arrive ready to take part, connect with each other and experience the kind of energy we have been building with MARIWÔ in Brazil.
